I think when you’re buying a property the most important thing really, is the area. So, it’s nothing really to do with the property at all.

The reason for that is that really you can do anything to a property, you can make it bigger or improve it anyway but you can’t change the area. So, that’s the first thing to look for.

An estate agent really, will always try to own the worst possible house in the best possible area rather than the other way round. It’s certainly better from an investment point of view.

Other than that, I would just make sure if it was for my own occupation that the property gives me plenty of scope to live in now, but also there’s growing room if my circumstances change and also of course we all tend to own more and more stuff these days so plenty of storage would be a good thing for me.

Most people don’t use garages for cars any more, so could the garage be converted into a more functional room, for example, an office, decent storage area, gym, that kind of thing.

So, I think everyone is different but there are some key things to look for, the first thing I would look for is area.
